Koh Phing Kan (James Bond Island)

8° 16.5′ N · 98° 30.1′ E

Khao Phing Kan, the 'leaning hills', was Scaramanga's hideout in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) and is now Phang Nga Bay's most-visited island, with a lagoon, cleft rock formations and a beach full of souvenir stalls.

Practical

Coordinates from Wikipedia. Hundreds, sometimes thousands, of visitors a day, most arriving by longtail from Phang Nga; go before about 10:30am or in the late afternoon. Food and souvenir sellers come over from Koh Panyi. Southeast Asia Pilot says rangers charge 500 THB per person to go ashore (undated, verify locally). Dinghy access: at high tide enter the lagoon on the north side; at most other tides land at the jetty on the southwest side. The Pilot notes that nearby islands the tours skip are just as impressive, and a January 2025 cruising crew circled it by dinghy rather than queue ashore.

The famous view, best by dinghy at dawn from the James Bond anchorage
