Tham Lod Sea Cave (Koh Thalu)
8° 18.0′ N · 98° 29.8′ E
A short tunnel cave, about 50 m long and 20 m wide, through the south side of Koh Thalu, hung with stalactites. Canoes and small boats pass right through it on the tide, just north of James Bond Island.
Practical
Position from the Thai Holiday Guide directions link (8.30059, 98.49698), matching the OpenStreetMap node 'Tam Lod – Thalu Mountain Kayaking'. Lovethailand puts it about 4 km from Koh Phing Kan and 3 km from Koh Panyi. Whether you can get through depends on the tide and the wind and waves: at high water the gap under the ceiling closes, so time a dinghy or kayak visit for mid-tide or lower and check the tide table first. Tours bring kayaks from Phang Nga town pier, Surakul Pier or Hin Rom Pier and transfer guests at the cave mouth. Listed park entry 300 THB for foreigners, 60 THB for Thais, open daily 8:00 am–4:30 pm (undated listing, verify locally). No published anchorage at Koh Thalu: anchor at the James Bond Island anchorage (Koh Daeng Yai channel, about 3 km south) or at Koh Panyi and come by dinghy. The northern bay is shallow, with sandbanks that almost dry.
Best for
