About SailSpo

I built SailSpo because I couldn’t find a way to plan a trip with my friends.

Every two years I go sailing with my close friends to a beautiful place. Planning those trips is where SailSpo started.

Our trips

From sailing school to the islands

  1. 2021

AJ and I learn to sail

AJ and I got into sailing back in 2021. We took our ASA sailing courses together.

  2. 2021

    Catalina

Two friends at the twin helms of a sailboat under a navy bimini, open ocean and wake behind them; one gives a thumbs up.
Under sail off Catalina, and at the helm.
  3. 2023

    British Virgin Islands

AJ, Mark and their friends posing on the giant painted Jost Van Dyke sign in the BVI, with hills and a cloudy sky behind them.
Sunset in the BVI, and AJ and me with the crew on Jost Van Dyke.
  4. 2025

    Bahamas, the Abacos

    At anchor in the Abacos.
Nine friends in matching Bahama Boys shirts cheering on a catamaran’s trampoline, with clear water and trees behind them.
    The crew.
Mark at the bow of a catamaran under sail on green water, shot from above with a 360 camera.
Me at the bow, under sail.

The problem

Planning was the hard part

Planning and budgeting a trip was always a mix of blog posts, YouTube videos and searching on Google Maps. Then we’d layer on the “where do we anchor?” info from Garmin, and work out how long it takes to sail from one place to the next.

It became incredibly difficult.

Then, Sailor ID

Making your experience count

Being approved to rent an expensive charter was always a bit confusing. So I created Sailor ID to streamline it: it makes your experience and certifications official, so you can use them.

My hope

I hope SailSpo helps more people get into sailing and explore islands by boat.
