Koh Hong Anchorage A (Phang Nga)

8° 13.5′ N · 98° 30.1′ E

A scenic mud anchorage in about 12 m between Koh Hong and the shallows west of Koh Na Khae, under the cliffs of Phang Nga Bay's most famous hong island. It is the easiest base for dinghy exploration all the way round Koh Hong.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 08°13.518N 98°30.098E, about 16 nm from Yacht Haven. About 12 m, mud, good holding, usable in both monsoons. Busy with day-trip boats and sea-canoe tours through the middle of the day; it is quiet by late afternoon. Strong tidal currents in the channels, especially at springs, so don't swim in them. Heading north, keep well clear of the shallow bank west of Koh Na Khae. Heading east, pass north of Koh Na Khae or south of Koh Yai; the gap between Koh Yai and Koh Na Khae is for shoal draft only. A national park ranger station is on Koh Yai. Ao Phang Nga National Park fee is collected in cash by rangers who come to the boat: Southeast Asia Pilot quotes 400 THB per person per day (undated, verify locally); a cruising yacht in January 2025 paid 300 THB per person on a receipt valid five days. No water, fuel or provisions.

Overnight base for Koh Hong's hong, with dinghy exploring once the tour boats leave
