Practical

Coordinate approx: Rick's Cay is not in GeoNames and no source we could open gives its position; this point is about 0.6 nm east of the GeoNames Buenavista Cay position, following Cheshire Cat's description 'just east of Buenavista Cay'. Confirm on Explorer Charts. MV Privateer describes the ledges as full of lobster and the grassy flats nearby as full of conch. Rules (Bahamas.com fishing FAQ): a fishing permit is required on a foreign boat ($100 for 30 days up to 50 ft, $300 over 50 ft; verify locally); spearguns are banned, Hawaiian slings or approved pole spears only, no scuba or compressor; aboard at any time no more than 10 lobsters (in season only), 6 conch (shell with a well-developed flaring lip) and 60 lb or 20 demersal fish. Confirm the lobster season dates locally. Fishermen use this area: bull and reef sharks come to speared fish, so get fish out of the water fast and do not clean them at the boat.
