HMS Spey wreck site (Buenavista–Raccoon reef)
22° 24.0′ N · 75° 49.2′ W · approximate
The Royal Navy brig HMS Spey was lost on a coral reef between Buena Vista and Raccoon Cays nearly two centuries ago, after her crew chose to cut across the Great Bahama Bank through the Jumentos instead of the Old Bahama Channel.
Practical
Coordinate approx: a point between Buenavista and Raccoon Cays; Eric Wiberg's 2026 Tribune history places the wreck on a reef 'between Raccoon and Buena Vista Cays' but gives no position, and says bits may still be there. The same article notes the deep channel between Nurse Cay and Raccoon Cay is only about 1,200 ft wide. Do not attempt to find it with the mother ship; this stretch is reef-strewn.
