Low Water Harbour reef snorkel (Buenavista)
22° 25.2′ N · 75° 49.9′ W · approximate
Reefs around Low Water Harbour at the south end of Buenavista, where the water is sheltered from waves and swell and the current is minimal: one of the best and easiest snorkels in the middle Jumentos.
Practical
Coordinate approx: pinned at the ActiveCaptain Low Water Harbour anchorage marker; no source gives a reef position. MV Privateer (2022-2023) calls the snorkelling on the reefs excellent, with ledges full of lobster and conch on the nearby grassy flats. A 2011 charter yacht did a 45-minute drift snorkel along the wall at Buenavista, sheltered by islands on both sides; go on the tide with someone minding the dinghy. Sharks are common because fishing boats anchor here: keep speared fish out of the water.
Best for
Easy, sheltered reef snorkelling from a front refuge
Season
Dec–May; best Mar–May between fronts
