Seasonal· Buenavista Cay· Bahamas — Eleuthera, Andros & the Out Islands
Cold-front exposure in the Jumentos (west-side anchorages)
22° 25.2′ N · 75° 49.9′ W · approximate
Almost every Jumentos anchorage is on the west (bank) side of a low cay, perfect in the easterly trades and dangerous when a winter front swings the wind south, west and north.
Practical
Coordinate approx: pinned at Low Water Harbour, one of the few front refuges. Plan for each front: get a forecast with several days' notice (SSB, satellite messenger or Starlink; cell only near Duncan Town); move early, because the refuges fill. Refuges named in these sources: Low Water Harbour (Buenavista) for NW-NE; Flamingo Cay North Bight for strong southerlies; Man O' War Bay (Raccoon Cay); Between the Raggeds (best all-round, high-tide entry); Ragged Island Southside for NW through E; Duncan Town harbour for shoal drafts. Plan B is to run back to Long Island or Great Exuma before the front (MV Privateer). noforeignland: protection is mostly from the east.
