Koh Hong South Anchorage (Krabi)

8° 4.6′ N · 98° 40.8′ E

The south-side anchorage off Koh Hong's white silica-sand beach, where huge monolithic rocks shade the sand all day and a floating jetty lets you land the dinghy at any tide. It is the best overnight stop in the Koh Hong group in the northeast monsoon.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 08°04.612N 98°40.805E, about 11 nm from Ao Nang. Anchor in 15-20 m or take a park mooring if suitable for your weight and draft; moorings can deteriorate without warning and some are for light craft only. Fringing coral reef: make the final approach in good light and keep clear of coral. Exposed in the SW monsoon. Day-trip speedboats and longtails crowd the beach in the middle of the day, so arrive in the late afternoon and leave early. Floating jetty for dinghies at all tides. National Park ranger station ashore; entry 300 THB per foreign adult and 100 THB per child (verify locally). A small beach restaurant runs in the daytime and may open for dinner if asked before sunset. No fuel, water, trash disposal or repairs.
