Koh Hong Lagoon (Krabi)

8° 4.7′ N · 98° 40.6′ E · approximate

The hong itself: a lagoon about 200 m across inside the island, entered through a narrow gap between limestone walls and open to the sky. Paddle or dinghy in on the tide and swim in clear water ringed by cliffs.

Practical

Position approx: the OpenStreetMap centroid of Koh Hong; the Pilot gives no separate lagoon coordinate, so use the north anchorage waypoint and go in by dinghy. Reached by dinghy or speedboat across a shallow reef only on tides above 2 m; swimming inside is possible at high tide. Watch for gill nets across the entrance on the ebb. Do not run outboards inside hongs. Visibility is best at slack water on springs and at any tide on neaps. Park fee applies (300 THB per foreign adult; verify locally).
