Koh Pak Bia Anchorage

8° 7.0′ N · 98° 40.5′ E

A secluded south-facing indent marked by a mushroom-shaped rock in the middle, with a white sand spit at the west end for swimming and beachcombing and big coral heads to snorkel on the north side.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 08°06.997N 98°40.475E, about 12 nm from Ao Nang. Approach from the south until the bottom shelves to about 15 m and anchor on sand. Acceptable overnight only in the NE monsoon or very calm weather. Do not anchor north of the spit: large coral heads rise from about 20 m there, so dinghy or swim over from the recommended spot. Fresh fish can sometimes be bought from local fishing boats; trolling for Spanish mackerel, jacks and barracuda is productive around the group.

Best for

A quiet stop with a sand spit on the way to or from Krabi

Season

NE monsoon or calm weather only
