Koh Butang East Anchorage (Ao Talo Lo Ko)

6° 31.7′ N · 99° 10.7′ E · approximate

A bay on Koh Butang's east side facing Koh Rawi across the channel, the Moorings guide's choice when the SW monsoon makes Rawi's west end uncomfortable.

Practical

Moorings Siam cruising guide: in the SW season anchor across the channel on the east of Ko Butang in 5-7 m; during the SW season the NE coast of Butang is best and has a good fringing coral reef. Approach with extreme caution, with a lookout on the bow for coral heads, and anchor on sand only. Position approximate: the OpenStreetMap label for Ao Talo Lo Ko on Ko Dong's east shore (in the water, about 250 m off). Note the park closes the Adang–Rawi islands for most of the SW monsoon, so this is mainly a shoulder-season option. Strong current in the Rawi Passage just north. The Moorings guide is undated, states its GPS positions are on the Indian 1975 datum (not WGS84) and says to anchor only on sand: it quotes fines of US$1,000 to US$15,000 for anchoring on coral (verify locally).
