Koh Butang South-West Anchorage (Ao Ta Lo La Yo)

6° 31.3′ N · 99° 9.8′ E · approximate

A bay on the south-west side of Koh Butang (Koh Dong), the third of the Moorings guide's Butang anchorages, usable in the NE monsoon with clear water and coral close by.

Practical

Moorings Siam cruising guide (Ko Butang various anchorages): several day anchorages with great snorkelling in both seasons; a third spot on the SW coast during the NE season. The bottom rises sharply from 30 m and all anchorages must be approached with extreme caution, a crew member on the bow watching for shallows and coral heads; use moorings when available or drop on sand with minimum chain and adequate swinging room, then snorkel to check the anchor. No restaurants. Position approximate: the OpenStreetMap label for Ao Ta Lo La Yo bay on Ko Dong's south-west shore (in the water, about 200 m off). The Moorings guide is undated, states its GPS positions are on the Indian 1975 datum (not WGS84) and says to anchor only on sand: it quotes fines of US$1,000 to US$15,000 for anchoring on coral (verify locally). Park fee and the Adang–Rawi seasonal closure apply (see those entries).
