Koh Butang South-East Islets Anchorage (Ao Talo Lo Kuai)

6° 31.1′ N · 99° 10.3′ E · approximate

A day anchorage tucked in among the small islets off Koh Butang's south-east corner — Koh Lokoi, Koh Lugoi and Koh Sakai — close to the group's best snorkelling, diving and fishing.

Practical

Moorings Siam cruising guide: another good Butang anchorage lies to the SE amongst the small islets; approach with extreme caution, the bottom rises sharply from 30 m. Southeast Asia Pilot: the day anchorage and moorings around Koh Palai and Koh Sawang to the south are generally the best snorkelling, diving and fishing in the group, with the bottom rising sharply from more than 25 m. Position approximate: the OpenStreetMap label for Ao Talo Lo Kuai bay (in the water, about 150 m off Ko Dong), with Ko Lokoi (6.51265, 99.17347) just south. Strong, unpredictable currents (dive-the-world, Stonehenge). Use a mooring if laid. No facilities. The Moorings guide is undated, states its GPS positions are on the Indian 1975 datum (not WGS84) and says to anchor only on sand: it quotes fines of US$1,000 to US$15,000 for anchoring on coral (verify locally). Park fee and the Adang–Rawi seasonal closure apply (see those entries).
