Salsipuedes North Slot Snorkel

28° 43.6′ N · 112° 57.2′ W

'Easily some of the best snorkelling in the Sea' — remote Isla Salsipuedes sits in the current-swept middle of the Gulf, with fish everywhere just outside the slot to the north and south.

Practical

Coordinate is the North Slot anchorage (verified in this file). Inside the slot the depth falls to about 9 ft then shoals to 3–4 ft at the head; anchor as shallow as you dare on good sand with no more than about 3:1 scope, many boats add a stern hook. Boats drawing over 10 ft should approach from the east to avoid a large rock nearly mid-channel. Strong tidal currents — swim near slack and keep a dinghy handy. Island lies in the Gulf islands protected area (CONANP permit to land).
