Isla Raza Seabird Sanctuary

28° 49.4′ N · 112° 58.8′ W

A low, flat 57-hectare island that hosts roughly 95% of the world's Heermann's gulls and elegant terns in spring — a deafening, swirling white city of seabirds.

Practical

Bird reserve since 1964, UNESCO World Heritage (2005) and Ramsar site (2006). Landing is not open to visitors without authorization — view from the water at a respectful distance, engines slow and no horns. No anchorage is described in the sources; treat as a drift-by from nearby Salsipuedes or the Ánimas area in settled weather. Ask the CONANP office in Bahía de los Ángeles about the current nesting period and viewing rules.
