Animas Slot Southeast Reef Dive

28° 50.4′ N · 113° 14.7′ W

An exposed reef off the southeast point of the Animas Slot with steep formations dropping from 40 to 90+ ft, rich plant and fish life, and the kind of current-fed abundance the northern Gulf is famous for.

Practical

Waypoint 28°50.41'N, 113°14.72'W from S/V Ceilidh's dive list published by Club Cruceros. Depth 40-90 ft or more; steep formations; strong currents possible — dive near slack and leave someone in the dinghy. This is the same reef that guards the slot's east entrance (often showing breakers), so approach only in calm conditions. Anchor the mothership in the slot in 20-25 ft sand (Online Cruising Guide) and take the dinghy out.

Best for

Current-swept northern reef wall

Season

Jun–Nov calmest; avoid N winds
