Isla Partida Anchorage (Midriff)

28° 53.3′ N · 113° 2.8′ W · approximate

A small volcanic island split almost in two, 8 km north of Isla Raza, with a bay where Club Cruceros recommends anchoring and big seabird rookeries — the stepping stone between the Ánimas–Salsipuedes chain and Ángel de la Guarda.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: in the shallow bight on the west side of the island's narrow waist, about 120 m off the OpenStreetMap coastline (island centroid 28°53'28" N, 113°02'19" W). Club Cruceros: anchor inside the bay; watch for westerlies and northerlies, which blow straight in — this is a settled-weather or summer (SE wind) stop, not a norther refuge. No depths or bottom type in the sources: approach slowly with good light, sound in, and give offlying rocks room (Roca Blanca, Roca Cardonosa and an unnamed islet are all within a mile). Strong tidal currents run between the Midriff islands. The island is about 2 km long and 800 m wide, uninhabited, and part of the Gulf of California islands protected area and UNESCO World Heritage site — going ashore requires a CONANP permit; keep well clear of the rookeries. Isla Ángel de la Guarda is 12 km NNW and the Baja coast just under 18 km west; Bahía de los Ángeles is about 50 km.
