Isla Salsipuedes North Slot Anchorage
28° 43.6′ N · 112° 57.2′ W
A sand-floored notch in a raw, bird-covered speck of rock mid-Gulf — 'leave if you can' — with some of the best snorkeling in the Sea of Cortez right off the stern.
Practical
Technical, settled-weather-only anchoring; no protection from north wind or waves. Room for up to 3 coordinated boats. Drop as shallow as you dare down the middle of the slot on good sand; depth falls to about 9 ft then shoals to 3-4 ft at the head, so not more than 3:1 scope — many use a stern hook. Boats drawing over 10 ft: a large rock sits nearly mid-channel at the mouth — curve in from the east. The pass between Salsipuedes and Isla Las Ánimas is choked with reefs; only transit very close to Las Ánimas. Offlying rocks on the NW point and north side. The South Slot and two outer bays are even more confined. Bugs can be bad.
