El Pescador Island Rocks Snorkel

28° 55.3′ N · 113° 23.2′ W · approximate

Massive jumbled rock, canyons and underwater peaks around the small island at Ensenada El Pescador — prime grouper, octopus and reef-fish habitat for a free-form snorkel or spearfishing session.

Practical

Coordinate is the El Pescador anchorage (verified elsewhere in this file), not the rocks; the best structure is east and north of the island. Anchor in 15–35 ft sand behind the island (20–25 ft typical). One crew (August 2020) found the snorkelling great and the fish variety excellent, particularly at the north end, but visibility poor. Strewn rocks extend off the north and south sides of the island and rocky slabs off its east side. Exposed to summer southeasterlies. Inside the biosphere reserve — check current fishing rules before spearing.
