Bahía de los Ángeles Whale Sharks

28° 57.9′ N · 113° 32.1′ W · approximate

Every summer 20-30 juvenile whale sharks feed in the bay — often five or more cruising past anchored boats at once, which earns the town its title 'House of the Whale Shark'.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate, in the bay off the village where cruisers report sightings. Official swim season runs June 1 to December 15, but swimming opens only once at least five sharks are present. Observation rules (CONANP, 2025): one boat per shark, at least 5 m from the shark, never block its path, 30-minute maximum, waiting boats 50 m off; all on board must carry the Pasaporte por la Conservación. Swim with authorised local guides. Under way, keep a lookout and slow down in the bay.
