Isla La Ventana Anchorage

28° 60.0′ N · 113° 30.8′ W

A lunar-looking island close to the village with a deep bowl of an anchorage on its NW side — a crew sat out Hurricane Kay (2022) here alone.

Practical

Room for three boats in settled weather, one in a real blow. Open only to about 20° directly west (Club Cruceros: exposed to westerlies through the gap). Excellent holding in firm sand; most anchor a third of the way off the SE beach in 30-35 ft; the extreme SE corner drops to 6-8 ft at mid-low tide. Approach from the south between Ventana and Isla Cerraja (15-30 ft mid-channel), or north of Isla Llave between it and Isla Flecha; never between Llave and Cerraja except by dinghy. Hidden pinnacle about 200 m east of Isla Jorobado. Scattered reef off the SE corner by the 'window' arch — do not approach from that side. Hike the island's strange upper valley; swim/snorkel a figure-eight around Llave and Cerraja.
