Pata y Bota Anchorage

29° 0.8′ N · 113° 30.8′ W

A narrow private channel between two small islands that most boats zoom past — a magical stop in the right conditions, with a tiny beach and a snorkel lap around either island.

Practical

Room for two boats. Anchor mid-channel in 30-35 ft just west of the tongue of white sand spilling through the eastern gap; only ~3:1 scope fits. Open to the east, so chop can enter — settled weather only, never at night. Approach the west entrance from N, S or SW; the one hidden hazard is a rock pinnacle about 200 m east of Isla Jorobado, lining up almost exactly with the channel — keep to the middle or toward Pata y Bota. Swim around Pata (~1 mi) or Bota (~3/4 mi). Kayak campers sometimes use the beach.

Best for

A private overnight in settled weather
