Isla Mitlán Channel Snorkel

29° 4.0′ N · 113° 31.1′ W

Cliff walls that continue below the surface between Isla Mitlán and Isla Coronado, 'crawling with a who's who of reef and predator fishes' — you can snorkel one side of the channel and back on the other straight from the boat.

Practical

Coordinate is Isla Mitlán from the Wikipedia islands table; the Mitlán anchorage is on its north/northeast side in 20–30 ft (soft sand, good holding once found). Grouper especially common. Avoid the channel south of Isla Mitlán — scattered rocky shoals; dark mid-channel areas are rock. Bees in the dry season and no-see-ums when the breeze dies. Watch the current; time the swim near slack.

Best for

Snorkelling straight off the boat
