Nengonengo Private Atoll (No Entry)
18° 42.4′ S · 141° 49.9′ W · approximate
A small private pearl atoll SW of Hao, owned by the Wan pearl family. Yachts are not allowed in the lagoon, and a caretaker will ask you to leave.
Practical
June 2020 (Soggy Paws compendium): the pearl farm was shut down but a caretaker lives on the atoll; being in the lagoon is forbidden. Wikipedia lists about 54 residents (2012), Wan pearl-farm operations and a private airstrip opened in 1993. The shallow northern pass (approx. 18°42.4S / 141°49.9W) is described under passages. An old pilot note reports anchoring possible west of the pass, about 0.1 mile offshore in 30 m, which is an open-ocean roadstead. In 2019 the atoll was reportedly for sale.
