Kaki Pass Dive (Hao)
18° 3.8′ S · 141° 0.5′ W · approximate
A high-current pass dive at Hao's only entrance, thick with fish, often with manta and eagle rays.
Practical
Duplicat (June 2017) dived with locals who keep a pearl-farm buoy outside the pass, a little to the west. There were two buoys and they picked up the westernmost one. They saw loads of fish and eagle rays; mantas are often seen. Dive only near slack with local knowledge, because the pass can run 6-8 kt and more. A PADI/CMAS instructor, Laurent, was setting up a dive centre at the north edge of the village in 2017; its current status is unknown, so ask at the mairie. The Soggy Paws diving table lists Hao as having pass dives and a dive operation with tank refills (2010). Position approximate: just outside and slightly west of the Kaki Pass waypoint (18°03.90S / 141°00.31W). Noonsite (2025) quotes Sailing Directions that the Kaki Pass current can approach 12 kt in some conditions.
