Hao Air Tahiti Office and Airport (HOI)
18° 4.5′ S · 140° 56.7′ W
Hao's 3,380 m former military runway, once listed as an emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle, now carries Air Tahiti flights to Papeete. It makes Hao a practical place for crew changes and parts.
Practical
Airport coordinates are from Wikipedia (IATA HOI, ICAO NTTO; runway 12L/30R, 3,380 m asphalt). Air Tahiti flies to Papeete (Faa'a) and Totegegie (Gambier). The Air Tahiti office was above Magasin Jojo in 2019: from the quay go to the main road, turn right, and it is on the right, 2nd floor. It opens only a couple of days a week for a few hours. Fresh vegetables arrive by plane from Tahiti on Sundays and sometimes Thursdays. Air Tahiti also carries parcels. The commune's 2019 profile lists 2-5 flights a week depending on the season, ATR 72 aircraft and about 2 hours 15 minutes direct to Tahiti; Noonsite (2025) confirms regular flights to Tahiti.
