Hao Near-Pass Anchorage

18° 4.3′ S · 140° 59.7′ W

A protected spot just inside the lagoon east of Kaki Pass. Use it to wait for better light before crossing the lagoon, or to stage for the right moment to go out the pass.

Practical

Soggy Paws compendium: 18°04'31S / 140°59'75W, which reads as decimal minutes, 18°04.31S / 140°59.75W. Good sand with isolated coral heads. A very shallow dinghy landing pier gives access to the point and an old military shooting range. The compendium also mentions an anchorage on the W side of the pass, without a position. In Feb 2019 two boats spent hours unwrapping chain from coral near the pass, so float your chain. Strong current near the pass mouth.
