Nabadup & Cambombia Anchorage (Naguarandup Cays)

9° 28.6′ N · 78° 43.2′ W

Two neighbouring palm cays in the eastern Naguarandup string: uninhabited Nabadup and Cambombia with its small extended Guna family, both ringed by reefs full of juvenile fish, octopus and spotted eagle rays.

Practical

Position 09°28.639'N 078°43.212'W off Nabadup, 6 m good holding in sand; Spirit of Argo came in by the deeper channel from the southwest (March 2016). Cambombia is the more popular anchorage; anchor off Nabadup if you have a dog, to avoid the Cambombia family's dogs and livestock. You can walk or dinghy between the two cays to buy coconut bread, molas and trinkets from the family. Inner reefs hold juvenile tropical fish, octopus, lobster and squid; the outer reefs have schools of larger fish, oceanic triggerfish and spotted eagle rays. In March Spirit of Argo had steady 10–15 kn NE trades and almost no rain. A charter operator rates the Cambombia area 9 of 10 for quiet snorkelling, empty beaches and Guna community visits (Catamaran Adventures).

Best for

Snorkelling the inner and outer reefs with a Guna family next door
