Orduptarboat Anchorage (West Coco Bandero)
9° 31.2′ N · 78° 39.0′ W
A 12 m anchorage off the small island of Orduptarboat at the western end of the Coco Bandero Cays, a few miles west of the main group, with pretty reefs, a Guna fishing camp ashore and bioluminescence on clear nights.
Practical
Position from Spirit of Argo (March 2016), printed as 09°31.162'N 079°38.954'W; the 079° is a typo for 078° (the 079° reading would put it in the mainland jungle), so the point used is 09°31.162'N 078°38.954'W, which lies about 180 m off the Orduptarboat islet in OpenStreetMap. 12 m depth. Good snorkelling on the surrounding reefs, but heavily over-fished and the fish shy; a large nurse shark was seen in the deeper water. Spirit of Argo watched a bioluminescent display around the boat on a clear night. Close to Two Palm Island and the West Coco Bandero anchorage; a $10 anchoring charge was collected at West Cocos in 2012 (verify locally).
