Coco Bandero West-End Reef Snorkel

9° 30.8′ N · 78° 37.2′ W · approximate

The reef at the western end of the Coco Bandero cays between the outer two islands, called excellent snorkelling all round by SY Balvenie, with nurse sharks among the coral.

Practical

Coordinate approximate and derived: in the water between the two westernmost islets of the eastern Coco Bandero group (Dupwala and Warsobguadop in OpenStreetMap), about 270 m from either shore; snorkel by dinghy or straight off the boat from the anchorage. SY Balvenie (2012) found excellent snorkelling everywhere, especially on the reef at the western end between the outer two islands; noforeignland's 2025 guide notes vibrant reefs and nurse sharks. Spirit of Argo (2016) found the reefs pretty but over-fished, with shy fish, as Guna fishing camps now reach the outer cays. Watch for current and dinghy traffic; tie the dinghy off on sand, never on coral.
