Naguarandup Cays Anchorage (Myriadup)

9° 29.7′ N · 78° 45.2′ W

A string of pristine palm cays between Carti and the Holandes behind a long protective reef, quieter than the Lemmons and the Swimming Pool, with stingrays, nurse sharks and eagle rays over sand and grass.

Practical

Position 09°29.714'N 078°45.199'W off the sandy east end of Myriadup Cay: 6 m dropping to 10 m, sand and broken coral (Spirit of Argo 2016). Staying close to the beach kept the bugs down while the wind held. Shallow reef just SW of the anchorage; Guna fishers sell fish (two tuna for $5 in 2016, verify locally). Mailasail s/v Angel (2010) described the West Naguarandup Cays as an enormous anchorage with about six miles of reef in front, terrific snorkelling and a channel through the reef to the outer reef; they also bought lobster and crab from fishermen and saw the veggie boat. Note: nearby Gunboat Cay charged a $20 anchoring fee in 2016.

Best for

A quiet alternative to the busy western cays
