Kuanidup Anchorage (Río Sidra Cays)

9° 30.1′ N · 78° 50.9′ W · approximate

Kuanidup is a small palm islet in the cays off the Río Sidra–Isla Máquina villages, home to a Guna-run cabaña lodge; boats anchor off it as a quiet base between Carti and the Naguarandup Cays.

Practical

Coordinate approximate and derived: about 150 m SSW of the Kuanidup islet outline in OpenStreetMap (way 12415299), checked to lie in open water about 135 m off the beach. No published cruiser waypoint, depth or holding report was found for Kuanidup itself, so feel in with good overhead light and the Bauhaus chartlet, and expect patch reefs among these inshore cays. OpenStreetMap lists Kuanidup as a guest house (cabañas): ask the Guna caretakers before landing and expect a per-person landing fee; islands in this sector typically charge $2–5 per person (Panamaspot 2025) and many expect a printed receipt for anchoring permits (Noonsite 2018). Provisions, a clinic and village life are a short dinghy ride south at Río Sidra (Urgandí–Mamardup). No fuel, water or ATM.
