Dog Island Wreck (Isla Perro / Assudub)
9° 33.5′ N · 78° 52.6′ W · approximate
A cargo-ship wreck lying in shallow water right off the beach of tiny Isla Perro Chico (Assudub Bippi), so close to shore that you can snorkel it straight from the sand; the most famous snorkel in the western San Blas.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: OpenStreetMap's 'Barco Hundido' (sunken ship) point just off Isla Perro Chico (Achudub Bippi), replacing an earlier group-level point; locate the wreck by eye. The wreck sits off the one beach not ringed by reef (Wikivoyage); snorkel gear rents for about $5 per day and the island charges for hammocks, beach and seats (Wikivoyage, 2016 prices, verify locally). Panamaspot describes it as a 1940s cargo ship that gets crowded with day-trippers by midday, so go early. Beware strong tidal currents between Perro Chico and the neighbouring islands. Island fees reported $2–5 per person (2018); one vessel was charged $24 to anchor off Dog Island. Visit by dinghy from the East Lemmons or Chichime rather than anchoring among the day-tour boats.
