Dog Island Anchorage (Isla Perro)

9° 33.6′ N · 78° 52.2′ W · approximate

The open water between Isla Perro Chico (Assudub Bippi) with its famous wreck and Isla Perro Grande (Assudub Dummad), a day stop for the wreck snorkel that most cruisers visit by dinghy from the Lemmons or Chichime.

Practical

Coordinate approximate and derived: midway between the two Perro islets as outlined in OpenStreetMap (relations 12589796 and 12589840), about 300 m from either shore. No published anchoring waypoint or depth was found, and the area is crowded with tour pangas from Carti by midday. One yacht was charged $24 to anchor off Dog Island in July 2018, on top of landing fees of $2–5 per person depending on the day and the number of tourists (Noonsite 2018, verify locally); Perro Grande charged $2 per person and $5 per dog. Strong tidal currents run between Perro Chico and the neighbouring islands (Wikivoyage). Better: anchor in the East Lemmons or at Chichime and come over early by dinghy.

Best for

A quick daytime stop for the Dog Island wreck

Season
