Banedup Anchorage (East Lemmon Cays)
9° 34.0′ N · 78° 51.7′ W · approximate
Banedup is one of the reef-ringed islets on the southern side of the East Lemmons, close to the Dog Island wreck and the 'natural pool' sandbar, with Guna-run cabañas and simple places to eat nearby.
Practical
Coordinate approximate and derived: about 110 m west of the Banedup islet outline in OpenStreetMap (way 784100720), checked to be in water clear of the neighbouring islets; take the actual spot from your chart. Use the East Lemmons approach (see the East Lemmon Cays Southern Entrance passage) in good light: Spirit of Argo called the Lemmons 'a bit of a maze' and Balvenie found only small sand pockets with shallows around. noforeignland's 2025 community guide rates a 'Banedup island' anchorage 4.7 of 5 for security, easy access, good snorkelling and local dining nearby, with crowding and unmarked reefs noted, and a 'Banedup Middle Anchorage' 4.9 for good holding in sand and calm water even in strong winds (the guide does not say which of the San Blas islets called Banedup each review is for; there is a second Banedup in the East Holandes). Busy with day-tour pangas from Carti at midday. Three thefts of dinghy anchors were reported in the East Lemmons in Dec 2018 (CSSN via Noonsite): lift and lock everything.
