Robeson Islands Anchorage (Isla Gerti)

9° 28.3′ N · 78° 50.6′ W · approximate

A cluster of small islands off the mainland near Río Sidra and Isla Máquina, where ulus surround arriving boats with molas and local guides offer river trips and jungle walks to Guna villages in the hills.

Practical

Coordinate approximate and derived: about 150 m NW of the islet OpenStreetMap labels 'Robinson Island' (way 620504790), in the island group near Río Sidra; checked to be in open water. No published waypoint or depth was found, so pilot by eye and the Bauhaus chartlet. SY Vindomar (2008) found the first anchorage affected by swell and moved behind a smaller island; a Guna representative collected the anchoring fee and offered guiding: a motorised-ulu river trip ($20 plus $10 fuel, 2008; their first attempt was blocked by a log jam) and a long jungle trail (about 10 miles round trip) to a hill village, where visitors paid $2 each. Locals wear rubber boots against snakes. Noonsite's 2018 fee list gives Isla Gerti (Islas Robeson) $7 for 30 days anchoring (verify locally); keep the receipt. Expect to be surrounded by mola sellers on arrival.

Best for

Guided river and jungle trips from a quiet inshore anchorage

Season
