Mulatupu Anchorage (inside the reefs)
8° 56.9′ N · 77° 45.1′ W · approximate
The flat water inside the three parallel reefs off Mulatupu (Muladub), the 'island of the vulture', a large Guna village island shared by Mulatupu and Sasardí communities, with an airstrip and pier.
Practical
Coordinate approximate and derived: about 240 m north of the Nuevo Sasardí–Mulatupu pier (OpenStreetMap node 8603222573), checked to be in water about 90 m off the island. Entry (SV Wild Fox via Noonsite): there are three parallel reefs; the middle one has a pole on its end, as does the next one in; keep well out and line up the channel between the two poles on about 175°T, and once clear inside drop anchor wherever you like (see the Mulatupu Reef Passage). Wild Fox reached it by the calm inside passage from Puerto Escocés with careful pilotage, and warns that at Nianeka island you should carry straight on paralleling the shore rather than go west round the small islands (they grounded). Mulatupo Airport (IATA MPP) serves the village (Wikipedia). OpenStreetMap shows a congress house, a medical post and a rental house by the pier. Clear in first at Puerto Obaldía or Porvenir.
