Caledonia Anchorage
8° 54.2′ N · 77° 41.7′ W · approximate
The traditional village of Caledonia on the far-eastern coast near Puerto Escocés, where official village guides show visitors traditional bamboo-and-thatch houses, the school and canoe carving, and set clear rules of conduct.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: the village point in OpenStreetMap (node 7797231844, on land); anchor off by eye and the Bauhaus chartlet, as no published waypoint or depth was found. Noonsite's 2018 fee list: $12 anchoring for 30 days and $2 per person to visit (verify locally). SY Vindomar (2008) was met by village representatives who showed a written code of conduct: no sweets or biscuits for children, no throwing coins for children to dive for, nothing non-biodegradable into the water, no photos without consent, and leave the village before nightfall. Tours are arranged for the next morning; women generally do not want to be photographed. Bread, onions, plantains and molas could be bought; village restaurant. Wikivoyage notes no electricity or landlines at Caledonia. OpenStreetMap shows the Casa del Congreso and school in the village. Charts here are unreliable: daylight only.
