Fort Saint Andrew Ruins (Darién Scheme)
8° 50.4′ N · 77° 38.3′ W · approximate
The site of Fort Saint Andrew, built by the Scottish colonists of 'New Caledonia' during the disastrous Darién scheme of the late 1690s, on the headland of the bay still called Puerto Escocés (Scottish Bay).
Practical
Coordinate approximate: OpenStreetMap's archaeological-site point (node 539830827), sourced there from personal knowledge; ask the Guna village for permission and a guide before walking to it. More than 80 percent of the colonists died within a year and the settlement was abandoned in March 1700 after a Spanish siege that also blockaded the harbour (Wikipedia). Little is visible: go for the history and the walk. Combine with the Puerto Escocés anchorage.
