Carreto Bay Anchorage
8° 47.0′ N · 77° 34.5′ W
An idyllic, pristine village bay on the mainland coast between Puerto Obaldía and Isla Pinos, with a stream to wade, a long driftwood beach walk and a small village shop.
Practical
SV Wild Fox anchored at 08°46.97'N 077°34.49'W in the centre of the bay, well out; consider working further into the corner behind the island. Landing at the village is through surf: watch closely and time your run to the sand. Small shop in the centre of the village; wade the stream (watch a local first). Puerto Perme nearby charged $10 for an anchoring permit and sometimes tries to charge for the path to Carreto: show your receipt (2018). Puerto Perme, about 10 km east of Obaldía, is reported as a very well protected bay.
