Lynyard Cay Anchorage

26° 21.4′ N · 76° 59.1′ W

A long, beach-lined lee off Lynyard Cay that is the classic South Abaco staging anchorage - swim off the boat in clear water, walk to the Atlantic side, dinghy to Pete's Pub, and leave at dawn through Little Harbour Bar for Eleuthera.

Practical

Anchor almost anywhere along the cay's west side in roughly 6-12 ft (deeper spots to about 20 ft) over sand with some grass - find a sand patch; the north end shoals toward a reef lying N and E (see North Lynyard Cay Anchorage). Excellent protection from N through SE (about 350-160 deg); little shelter from S or W. Toward the south end more swell works in from Little Harbour Bar. Coming from the north, run a little south past the anchorage before crossing from the west to the east side of the channel. Cruisers net reported on VHF 68 at about 8:00 am to 8:15 am (2018). Beaches are public although the cay is private; picnic tables on the beach. Long-ish, sometimes rough dinghy ride to Pete's Pub. Pelican Cays reef 2-3 nm north. ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally.
