Little Harbour Moorings

26° 19.7′ N · 76° 60.0′ W

An almost landlocked, turtle-filled harbour at the south end of the Sea of Abaco where the Johnston family founded an artists' colony in 1951 - pick up a ball, row to the sand floor of Pete's Pub, and walk to the Atlantic.

Practical

Near 360-degree protection with very little surge once inside. Most of the harbour is taken by moorings (about 20 reported); pay at Pete's Pub - $35-40 per day as of April 2026 (noforeignland); older rates $15 (2011) to $25/night, $65 for 3 nights (2016-2018). Very limited room and poor rocky holding for anchoring - most boats take a ball, or anchor outside off Tom Curry Point or at Lynyard. Entrance carries about 3.5-4.5 ft at MLW and about 7 ft at high water - drafts of 5 ft enter from about 2 hours before to high tide;. Not a hurricane hole for yachts on moorings. No fuel, water or groceries; ice, drinks and meals at Pete's; one bag of trash allowed with a mooring night (2016). Sea turtles, occasional manatees and lemon sharks in the harbour. ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally. Tide timing is disputed: older reports say Little Harbour runs about 2 hours ahead of the North Bar Channel (Pelican) prediction, but a December 2020 ActiveCaptain reviewer who ran aground relying on that charted it as virtually the same - 30 minutes at most. Use the Pelican prediction and watch the water.
