Cherokee Sound Anchorage (Cherokee Point)
26° 16.2′ N · 77° 3.1′ W
A little bay of brilliant turquoise water off Cherokee Point, on Great Abaco's open Atlantic coast below the settlement.
Practical
Room for 2-3 boats in about 7 ft (2.1 m) MLW, soft sand with very good holding. Well protected in a nor'easter; poor in S through NW, and ocean waves can roll in - one crew turned back in 2017 on seeing the swell. Reached from the ocean (via Little Harbour Bar and south along the coast) - not from the Sea of Abaco. The settlement is a long, very shallow dinghy ride. ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally.
