Cherokee Settlement
26° 16.9′ N · 77° 3.2′ W
One of the oldest settlements in the Bahamas, founded in the 1790s by Loyalists from the Carolinas - a small, quiet village on the shore of Cherokee Sound, far from the charter-boat circuit.
Practical
Not set up for visitors: no marina or fuel for yachts. A grocery store has been reported. Reach it by dinghy from the Cherokee Point anchorage (long, very shallow - tilt the outboard) or by road from Marsh Harbour. OpenStreetMap shows several small piers along the waterfront, including a long pier at the south end of the village. Cherokee Sound is part of East Abaco Creeks National Park (2015). Visitors have found locals quiet and reserved - a friendly greeting goes a long way.
Best for
A glimpse of old Loyalist Abaco by dinghy or car
