Loy Krathong at Saphan Hin, Phuket Town

7° 51.8′ N · 98° 24.0′ E · approximate

On the November full moon, Phuket floats thousands of candle-lit krathong rafts. Saphan Hin park in Phuket Town hosts the biggest local gathering, with a fun fair and krathong contests, and anchorages all round the island watch candles drift past at night.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: the Saphan Hin sports centre inside the park (OpenStreetMap), not a plotted festival site. Held on the full moon of the 12th lunar month, usually in November; in 2026 it falls on Tuesday, November 24. Stalls open at sunset and the waterside is busiest from about 8pm to 10pm, with no tickets and no official start time (Phuket 101). Other venues: Patong Beach (the biggest crowd), Karon Beach and Karon Lake, quieter Kata, Nai Harn Lake, the Bang Tao and Laguna lagoons, and Rawai pier, where you can float a krathong straight off the pier. Choose banana-trunk or bread krathongs rather than styrofoam. Sky lanterns are banned around Phuket airport under the Air Navigation Act. At anchor, keep a lookout at night for drifting krathongs and fireworks, and keep the deck clear of anything a stray lantern could set alight.
