Koh Thai Phlao and Koh Nai Phut Anchorage

9° 41.8′ N · 99° 40.9′ E · approximate

A day anchorage among the cluster of small karst islands in the north of Ang Thong, a playground of rock overhangs, sea caves and hongs to explore by kayak or SUP.

Practical

Island Spirit charter guide (2023): anchor off the east side of the islands in 11 m; take care with the dinghy as there are shallow rocks and coral heads; several small hongs (enclosed rooms) dot the islands, and one on the east side of the northern island is big enough to enter at mid tide; lots of sea urchins, so watch where you swim; the guide reports numerous whale shark and dolphin sightings in the area. Position is derived about 150 m east of the eastern point of the OSM Koh Nai Phut outline (way 24056770, east point 9.6962, 99.6799), not surveyed; Koh Thai Phlao is not mapped by name in OSM. Southeast Asia Pilot anchors nearby Koh Lim 'well off the northeast side in 10 m on a hard bottom', not suitable overnight; treat this as a day stop and return to the HQ moorings for the night.
