Koh Mae Ko Anchorage

9° 39.5′ N · 99° 40.0′ E

The anchorage on the east side of Koh Mae Ko, the Mother Island, below the stairs to the Emerald Lake.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot position 9°39.515'N 99°40.034'E, 1 nm from Koh Wua Ta Lap. Anchor in about 7-8 m off the third beach counting from the south, which has a small jetty (the main tourist drop-off) and access to the jungle paths; the Pilot prefers this beach. Approach from the northeast on about 230°, passing north of Koh Sam Sao and Koh Ao Raet to avoid the rocks. From the southeast, a large rock mid-channel must be kept to starboard; a red buoy marks an underwater rock off a small beach. A sharp rock just below the surface between Koh Mae Ko and Koh Hanuman shows only at extreme low tides. Day-tour boats use the jetty beach, so arrive early or late in the day.
