Koh Tachai Pinnacle
9° 3.4′ N · 97° 48.7′ E
Twin submerged granite domes (also called Twin Peaks or The Dome) south of Koh Tachai, in open water, with sea fans, schooling barracuda, leopard sharks on the sand and passing mantas and whale sharks.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM-mapped dive site (The Dome); OSM also maps Twin Peaks about 300 m east at 9.05629, 97.81504. The southern pinnacle top is at about 12–14 m, with a buoy for descent; the northern pinnacle top is at 18 m, about 50 m away across sand at 24 m, and the bottom is at 30–40 m (Khao Lak Scuba Adventures). Currents can be vicious, so this is for advanced divers (Sea Bees). Diving remains permitted in season even though the island itself is closed.
Best for
Big-animal diving in open water
Season
Mid-October to mid-May; pelagics best February to April
