Koh Tachai Anchorage
9° 4.2′ N · 97° 49.2′ E
A daytime anchorage off the long white beach on Koh Tachai (Island #11), halfway between the Similans and the Surins and 77 nm from Patong.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot position 09°04.229N, 97°49.150E. Anchor only on sand in 10–15 m, just north of the eastern point and slightly east of the reef running off the beach. Large orange government moorings lie outside the reef edge at the south and north ends of the beach, where the fringing coral comes closer to shore. The pilot calls the island far too exposed to be a good overnight anchorage. The island has been closed to landing since 2016 so its coral can recover from anchor damage; as of the pilot's 2025 update it remains closed to all day-trip activity, and only diving at permitted sites is allowed in season. Do not go ashore.
